Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Numidia – A lesser effort from the selection than I was hoping for. While he did manage to place 5th, unfortunately with nine non runners, only four places were paid out in the end. It looked like Seamie Heffernan had to ride him more prominent than he would have liked from his inside draw. The result being that the horse raced too keen early on and had little left for the finish. The winner Persian Queen won nicely recording a speed figure of (102).

1pt win Stay Local – The gamble of the race from 9/1 advised into 3/1 favourite. A satisfactory seasonal debut recording a similar speed figure (98) to her previous two races (97) and (100). Hopefully connections can find a little race for her eventually.

2pts win Moss Tucker without Tenebrism – While it was difficult to see the selection reversing form with the favourite from Cork, I was expecting him to get a lot closer. In the end he had the perfect trip, and left the stalls beautifully at the start compared to his previous run. The speed figure recorded (113) will see him very competitive in Group Race sprints moving forward. One wonders how he would have performed in the Prix De L’Abbaye with a better break from the starting gates. Considering he had two of the fastest sectionals in the race that day, according to France Galop, it wouldn’t have been too far fetched to envisage him in the shake-up for the win. Exciting times ahead for Ken Condon’s likeable gelding. Result 1st 5/2, 9/4, 2/1 adv..

Today’s Advice

Non Mollare (8F 142Y Handicap) this 6-y-o mare first came to my attention when finishing eleventh and recording a nice speed figure (98) at Navan on last year’s seasonal debut. A couple of fruitless efforts on rain softened ground at wild prices dashed my hopes of some decent payouts. She did eventually achieve that maiden win, for today’s new trainer Daragh Bourke at Southwell this February, off a lowly handicap mark of (46). She has since recorded another win off (50) and looks for her third career win today at Wolverhampton (5.55). Still only rated (53) she has shown on many occasions since, on the clock, that she is still well treated. A comfortable two and a half length win, last month over Connie R, at today’s course and distance yielded a decent speed figure of (102). For such a lowly rated horse she has put together speed figures well above her handicap rating on four occasions from her last eight. She seems to have achieved some new consistency while racing a little more prominently than in the past. From stall 1 today it is hoped jockey Paddy Harnett can negotiate a trouble free passage along the inside. The one concern is that she can race keenly and it is hoped that there will be enough pace in the race to get her to relax.

2pts win Non Mollare (4/1 William Hill/888sport/Paddy Power/Skybet/Bet365, 7/2 Coral/Betfred/Boyles/Ladbrokes) Wolverhampton 5.55
