Today’s Advice
Chairmanoftheboard (6F Handicap) this 7-y-o gelding returns to Newmarket (2.25) today, following his seasonal debut at Doncaster. With the ground currently described as Good To Soft, it may still be best to side with horses that prefer a bit of ease in the ground and with course form. Jack Channon’s son of Slade Power ticks a lot of these boxes. A third place over course and distance last April, behind Blackrod on Good ground, off a handicap mark of (94), reads well on today’s terms. With a preference for some juice in the ground, it is hoped that the track hasn’t dried up too much. His form also ties in well with recent winner Aleezdancer from August at Ripon last year. He now meets that rival a stone better off at the weights for 2 1/2 lengths. I am willing to allow him his comeback run just like last year, and hopefully he can improve again. Aleezdancer has been a revelation on ground with a bit of ease in it, and he sets the standard today. The 7lb rise will make things more difficult and it will be interesting to see how Kevin Ryan’s gelding handles the idiosyncrasies of Newmarket. The same comments can be made for favourite Probe who was very impressive at Wolverhampton. I am happy to let him show me that he can be repeat that effort on Turf.
