Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Gilt Edge – Gilt Edge (85) failed to build on her last effort and looks firmly on the decline at the moment.
0.5pt e/way Alioski – Alioski (94) made a satisfactory seasonal return but raced a bit too keen. He showed he can remain consistent going forward and there should be another little race in him. The winner Greek Giant (99) found a very suitable race and looks quite a bit ahead of his handicap mark at the moment. Result 3rd 20/1 adv…SP 9/1 R4 10c.
Today’s Advice
0.5pt e/way She’s A Novelty (10f 50y Hcap) Fergal O’Brien has been in decent form the past month over the Jumps and although this mare has yet to win on the Flat, the handicapper has dropped her to a very nice rating of just (59) for the (5.45) Nottingham. More known for her victories on the National Hunt scene, she also has some decent past form on the Flat in the UK and Ireland when with other trainers. Her last two RPRs of 68 on the Flat would give her a decent chance in such a weak race as today’s. Rated (100) over hurdles on her most recent efforts when last seen in 2021, I am willing to have a small interest that she may be fit and ready to do herself justice at a big price.
1pt e/way Not Too Real Bad (5f Hcap) Thomas Mullins’ likeable filly recorded a very decent speed figure of (109) when getting up for a last gasp win at Cork last month to beat Escaping Thejungle by a head. The handicapper has only raised her 4lbs for that win, and she still looks well treated using the clock as a guide. She also meets Amazon Lady on 4lb better terms tonight. While it may not be the best idea to take form from a flat track like Cork to a much stiffer one like tonight’s, she was noted making headway on Heavy ground when last seen round here. With prominent racer Dontspoilasale in the field she should get enough pace to aim at tonight.
0.5pt e/way Second Slip (11f 219y Hcap) James Fanshawe’s gelding returns to the track tonight for the first time in 643 days in the (8.25) Kempton. When last seen in 2021 he was recording a smooth Group 1 speed figure of (117) at Newcastle over the extended 12f. The form of that race has been franked many, many times with the likes of Khatm, Amir Kabir, Winterwatch, Carrigillihy, Moon Daisy and The Whipmaster in behind. James is not the type of trainer to take lightly when returning his horses back to the track after long breaks. A check of the database shows five such horses since 2009 to fit this mould, yielding three wins and a second place finish. Obviously the wind op and first time tongue tie could make all that irrelevant but at a double figure price he is certainly an interesting one for tonight.
